History of Planet Mu
One of British dance music’s most established and innovative labels showcased by a one of performance from the label founder.
“It’s intriguing to think today just how much Planet Mu has been an important beacon for many in numerous electronic music genres” Thequietus.com
Soundcrash is proud to announce a once in a lifetime show. Label head honcho µ-Ziq (Michael Paradinas) has put together a landmark, History of Planet Mu DJ set to be showcased at intimate spot, Archspace in Haggerston.
Over 20 years old now and with 350 releases under its belt, Planet Mu is a force of nature. Starting off as a platform for µ-Ziq to put out his own brand of Techno and IDM, µ-Ziq quickly realised that he wanted to release other artists on his label. Breaking away from Virgin, Planet Mu went independent in 1998 and has gone on to release music from Aphex Twin, Venetian Snares, Luke Vibert, Benga, Machinedrum & Vex’d.
Planet Mu’s releases are truly diverse and the label has stayed current by constantly evolving. Originally releasing µ-Ziqs original music, the label then delved into the high velocity Jungle and Hard Techno influenced Breakcore. With the emergence of a new sound from South London, Paradinas was lured by the deep and dark sounds of Dubstep and Grime, releasing these styles with Planet Mu melodic sensibilities. Most recently the label has moved towards the Urban and House influenced Chicago Footwork genre releasing artists such as DJ Rashad.
Planet Mu and µ-Ziq are a true testament to British music and UK Bass, we at Soundcrash are truly lucky to be able to host this one off event and hear the man behind it all assemble this gold mine of music.
