Soundcrash presents the Live LP Launch from DJ Vadim alongside friends & family from the legendary BBE stable and very special guests from Paris. Tickets are very limited for this very special occasion so don’t delay and book yours now. One for the party people!
BBE Music is an independent record label blessed with a lot of things: signing J Dilla, Jazzy Jeff, Masters at Work, Will I Am, working with Gilles Peterson, Keb Darge, John Morales, Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Paul Weller and many more on their compilations. But one thing they’ve never had is a stable of UK based artists releasing albums back to back- until now. Presenting the BBE All-stars, DJ Vadim, Chris Read, The Last Skeptik and Yesking, BBE is here to bring the party to the people, and on this very special November evening at The Hoxton Bar and Grill, that’s exactly what they’ll be doing.
Standing at the front on this evening, DJ Vadim will be launching his 10th studio album ‘Don’t Be Scared’ – a great album from one of the founding fathers of the beat scene. DJ Vadim has become well respected as an innovator in a number of areas during his career, “a veteran presence in the DJ community as well as one of the foremost producers in too many communities to count, Vadim is never running out of ideas” (URB Magazine). In 1994, Vadim founded his own independent record label, Jazz Fudge and signed to Ninja Tune the following year. So begun Vadim’s adventure that is now approaching its twentieth year and has seen him tour across 69 countries and perform over 2500 times, with shows at some of the world’s most prestigious events such as Sonar, Glastonbury, Big Chill, V Fest, Fuji Rock, Roskilde, Exit, Vinarock, Moscow Street Ball (to over 40,000 people), Notting Hill Carnival and Shambhala…To describe the man as an internationalist almost seems to sell him short.
Joining Vadim will be:
Chris Read, a collector of hip hop, funk, soul boogie and related beats and jazz based music since the late eighties, joined the BBE stable in 2011, producing releases in celebration of the label’s 15th Anniversary and 10 years of the label’s Beat Generation series. Chris came to prominence in the mid nineties through his role as resident DJ at Substance (one of the UK’s largest and longest running hip hop and funk nights). An album release for the Different Drummer label and a 2 year spell as mix DJ on BBC Radio 1Xtra in the early ’00s took Chris’s production and DJ talents respectively to an international audience. In recent years a steady output of high profile mix albums, remixes and singles (including collaborations with DJ Spinna, Oddisee and Lizzy Parks) has allowed Chris to DJ around the globe. However, it is Chris’s broad musical taste and knowledge and ability to throw the unexpected into the mix that maintain his reputation as a popular club DJ.
The Last Skeptik has come a long way from building his first beats whilst skipping classes at school. From releasing his first 12” single in 2004 featuring Sway, he has been steadily gaining fans with his production wizardry. Fast forward to 2012 and The Last Skeptik has released the critically acclaimed ‘How Not To Make A Living’ album with rapper Rewd Adams, with lead single ‘Everything’s OK’ being supported by SBTV, BBC Radio One, RWD, Jump Off and KISS100, and is prepping a second album, a highly anticipated instrumental project for BBE Records in 2013. Add to that residencies at Livin Proof and Knew Knowledge and a blinding showcase at SXSW and U.S tour, and 2012 has been a big year, with 2013 being consequently, on some galactic shit.
BBE’s latest signing Yesking was the brainchild of Rhys Adams and Mark Rae. Now headed up by Rhys Yesking have delivered a very exciting new LP taking the production to the next level. Studio hopping from highly respected independent label stalwarts Different Drummer, Leftfoot, Neon Productions and Grand Central Records for the last 15 years has obviously paid off. BBE are very happy to have this man on board and anticipate big things for Yesking next year.
The Jukebox Champions are Blanka (La Fine Equipe) and Fade (A State Of Mind), the Paris beatmaking duo showcasing the mpc set everyone is talking about. Images (and music) speak louder than words so check them in action here.
