Get your diaries out: Hip Hop’s Supervillain DOOM plays a full set at Kentish Town’s suitably regal HMV Forum. Plus after show club night with DELS and many more artists to be announced. It’s on!

DOOM is the new alias of New York producer and rapper Daniel Dumile Thompson, who has previously worked under various pseudonyms including MF DOOM, VIKTOR VAUGHN, DANGER DOOM (with Danger Mouse) and MADVILLAIN (with Madlib). An essential and outlandish figure in underground hip hop, he always covers his face behind a Dr Doom mask and has created his own universe centered around the world of comic books and Japanese monsters. His unconventional approach, linguistic dexterity and sick flow have gained DOOM an army of ardent fans from many different corners of the music world, and counts musicians of the caliber of Thom Yorke as some of his biggest supporters.

Kieren Dickins aka DELS is a new type of rapper (which is another way of saying that he’s more than just a rapper). Applying the kind of attention to detail, micro-management and macro-vision which Jay-Z used to build a business empire, DELS makes art. Popular art mind you, but art all the same, with emotional peaks, musical innovation and surreal, brilliant lyrics, held together by such a unique, such a strong vision.

Soundcrash Music are proud to invite you to KOKO to join the Submotion Orchestra as they play their largest London show to date! Prepare for an experience neither your mind nor your body are likely to forget as the booming KOKO sound system processes the full force of that trademark rumbling Submotion Bass directly into your face, perfectly complementing the ensemble’s hauntingly textured melodies. Their last Scala show sold out with weeks to spare so make sure you don’t miss out on one of the hottest tickets in town!

The Submotion Orchestra combine elements of soul, jazz and dub into their instrumental treatment of dubstep. This results in absolutely hypnotising sets where rolling bass-lines combine with layers of rhythm and somehow leave room for improvisational horn lines and gorgeous, soaring vocals – the dub-wise element is at the forefront, making each song seem wonderfully endless.

Don’t sleep on this chance to catch one of the most exciting acts in the country come into their own in one of London’s most legendary venues!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce the most exciting line up to take it to the stage this summer! Be at KOKO on the 18th of August to catch the hip hop party of the season, featuring some of the UK’s biggest and baddest acts; cats who have made history on the wheels of steel and who leave audiences slack jawed, sore and wanting more with nothing but two turntables, a mixer, and a total mastery of that boom bap thang.

DJ Vadim is amongst the heralded few who can count themselves as true innovators and one of the hardest working men in show business. Never predictable, he rips the rule-book to pieces, unleashing a barrage of killer grooves from genres as varied as hip hop, soul, funk, grime, reggae, trip hop and bass music; he never runs out of ideas. Vadim draws upon several lifetimes’ worth of experience: his project is now approaching its twentieth year and has seen him tour across more than sixty countries and perform over two and a half thousand times. A true scholar and a musical titan, every performance is guaranteed to be an experience.

One of the most highly regarded DJs to ever come out of the UK, DJ Format is sure to set the venue alight with bombastic grooves, catchy basslines and body rocking beats so funky you’re certain to be fronting in the b-boy stance before you know it! Never one to rest on his laurels, he’ll brandish the hallmarks of his Simonsound audio-visual set – a collaborative project between DJ Format and Simon James described by DJ Spinna as “a refreshing mesh of the past, present and the future. It’s like Mort Garson rocking shell toe Adidas with fat laces blasting into the galaxy in a funky space ship.” Casi nada.

Joining them is fellow heavyweight and the former DMC Champion Mr Thing, who has established himself equally as an absolute virtuoso behind the wheels and as one of most consistent purveyors of infectious grooves in the UK. One of the world’s eminent DJs, his skill and utmost respect for the material never fail to shine through. Heavyweight material.

Line-up:

Soundcrash is proud to bring to London the ultra-cool electronic soul machine from New Zealand known as Electric Wire Hustle.

Gnarls Barkley meets Mayer Hawthorne via A Tribe Called Quest, the eclectic sound of EWH has something for everyone with thick drums and percussion layered with synth lines, hints of the Fender Rhodes and nylon stringed guitars that have your neck snapping while your ear cranes to the evocative vocals of Mara TK. Signed to BBE in the UK they couldn’t have a more comfortable home for their diverse sound alongside the likes of 4 Hero, Henrik Schwarz, Jaylib and Vadim.

Speaking of which, Electric Wire Hustle’s live show will be followed by a Soundcrash special with labelmate DJ Vadim plus DJ Format & The Simonsound, Mr Thing and more playing the best Breaks, Soul and Hip Hop around… and you don’t need a separate ticket!

Line-up:

Soundcrash is proud to invite you to a night featuring one of the greatest, if not the greatest, turntablist in the world, accompanied by one of 2012′s brightest acts and some of the finest turntablists in the UK. Prepare for an absolutely spectacular night of music, now with added visuals. Serious dancefloor business.

Trust DJ Kentaro to weave a stupefying set as he simultaneously dissects and reconstructs every possible permutation of hip-hop, drum and bass and electronic beat into eminently dance-worthy compositions whilst never, EVER, letting the flow drop. There is no question that this man is responsible for some of the sharpest, most uncompromising DJ sets in recent years, full of energy, imagination and skill. His pedigree as a world-beater is unquestionable: in 2002 he shattered the record for the highest ever score at the DMC World Championships, being the first Asian DJ to ever take the title home with this outrageous routine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA7MsLBv_-U

His visits to London are few and far between, so don’t miss this chance to catch a true master at the peak of his creative powers, and watch out for a DJ Kentaro full length album coming out Summer 2012!

An unquestionably spellbinding live act that has seen venues across the country sold out, Anchorsong plays his largest headline show to date! His remarkable performances are an awe-inspiring showcase of improvisation, conveyed effortlessly with a soulful warmth most acoustic acts strive for and a sense of spectacle rarely ever achieved in live electronic music. Joining him on stage will be his string quartet, combining with his samples and melodies to create simply stunning music.

Joining him is fellow heavyweight and former DMC Champion DJ Woody, representing the Old-Skool turntablist steez. Big bloc beats, heavy funk breaks and catchy as f**k riffs cut & pasted together to a demolishing effect.

Representing the New-Skool enter Bristol’s DJ Cheeba, mash-up king extraordinaire, whose audiovisual show draws from TV soundtracks, film dialogues and infectious party tunes for a double-sensory-whammy worth the admission price of the night on its own.

Reso is simultaneously moving a whole spectrum of electronic genres forward while further cementing his place as the overlord of hi-tech dubstep. With Reso wobble, hypercrunk, breaks, wonky, hip-hop and D n B all receive the treatment. Reso’s deep musicality, incredible skill, intricate programming and wildly diverse references place him at the peak of a new breed of electronic producers.

Line-Up:

DJ Kentaro

Anchorsong (Live)

DJ Woody (Live AV Set)

DJ Cheeba (live AV Set)

Coming off a month that has seen venues in London, Brighton and Edinburgh sold out with audiences eager to experience his spellbinding live show, join Masaaki Yoshida, aka Anchorsong as he plays his biggest headline show to date at East London’s XOYO! His remarkable performances are an awe-inspiring showcase of improvisation, conveyed effortlessly with a soulful warmth most acoustic acts strive for and a sense of spectacle rarely achieved in live electronic music.

Masaaki Yoshida’s minimalist, analogue treatment belongs more to the MPC-era of 1980s and 90s hip hop and the days of early house than to the overproduced digitalism that dominates today. His creative process lends itself handily to the live act: he has stated that the concept of his performances is “to show the process of making music itself…to prove that the live show of electronic music is as exciting as one by a band.” Justly, his shows have been described as akin to “watching a painter draw on a white canvas.”

Plus the quality of supports you have come to expect from a Soundcrash show.

A dab hand behind the mixing desk, Grasscut have remixed Coldcut, Bonobo and Jaga Jazzist and, in turn, have been remixed by Nathan Fake and Bibio. Ahead of the ‘Unearth’ release Grasscut have hidden ten boxes around the country. Each contains a Walkman and a cassette, comprising not only the relevant album track but also a unique shadow version of the same piece. Video and GPS clues as to the location of these boxes are available at www.grasscutmusic.com

Their album launch at The Shacklewell Arms looks set to a special evening, see you there.
