Our favourite turntable soul band present a new direction in sound at The Scala in London.

With their brand new LP “Rollerchain” forthcoming on Tru Thoughts records, Belleruche have created a more bass heavy, evocative and darker sound in the studio and on stage, whilst still retaining that melodic soulful touch that made us fall in love with the band in the first place. You don’t want to miss this.

‘Rollerchain’ will be released 07/05/12, showcasing new instrumentation, complexity and attack that take the band’s core elements to a new level. A very modern sound combined with classic song writing ability, the album is an collision of haunting vocals, aggressive analogue sounds and bleeding edge electronic production.

Soundcrash presents the ultimate audiovisual DJ on a cinema sized screen at The Forum!

After selling out the IMAX, KOKO and The Roundhouse DJ Yoda is back for his bi-annual flagship London Audiovisual shows! Acclaimed by critics and loved by masses of sweaty, happy crowds the world over, DJ Yoda’s audiovisual extravaganza arrives at The Forum to make use of their giant screen and late license… blink and you’ll miss out on tickets!

Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. His seminal How To Cut & Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q Magazine to declare him “one of the ten DJs to see before you die”, whilst Hip Hop Connection voted him “one of the top three DJs in the world”.

Originally a hip hop dj, DJ Yoda has been steadily incorporating a myriad music styles into his shows with a view to create exhilarating musical collages, from reggae to drum’n’bass, electro to country music – and often at the same time! – concocting an intoxicating blend with one single aim in mind: to get the party going!

Trail-blazing into the world of the audio-visual he has pioneered a new artform using cutting edge technology that he has been instrumental in developing to scratch and mix visuals on top of his DJ sets. Drawing from sources as diverse as classic movies, obscure television shows, or viral youtube clips, you can find him cutting up the Indiana Jones theme tune to full on dubstep, or dicing and splicing the Muppet Theme with classic Hip Hop in amongst the inimitable audiovisual whirlwind that is DJ YODA.

Live AV support comes courtesy of the irrepressible DJ Cheeba. Party classics and dancefloor killers come together with iconic video clips and obscure youtube gems as Solid Steel’s Cheeba dices and splices audio and video live in front of your eyes! Already bossing the Bristol scene and having supported some of the biggest names at a myriad London shows DJ Cheeba has a proven track record of lighting rooms up with his quickfire mixing and flawless tune selections.

One of the biggest discoveries of 2011, Hidden Orchestra are back in London with their biggest headline show to date. Fresh from mesmerising a packed KOKO for the Tru Thoughts showcase in November, the Scottish quartet head now to XOYO in Old Street to deliver their bass heavy, brooding and beautiful sounds. Having found a perfect balance between electronic beats, deep basslines, string instruments and the astonishing synergy of their two drummers (!) Hidden Orchestra succeed in putting on a show that is as stimulating for the mind as it is for the body. We can’t recommend this band enough.

Soundcrash presents a one-off joint headline show for the desert soul rebels Tinariwen and cosmopolitan folk singer/songwriter José González. An utterly unique night of musical excellence you don’t want to miss.

You’ve got to be doing something right when you can count amongst your fans the likes of Thom Yorke, Brian Eno, Carlos Santana or TV On The Radio. Formed in rebel training camps in Libya, these exiled nomads-turned-rockstars of the Sahara have become the soundtrack for Touareg independence and reconciliation, combining traditional Touareg melodies with Malian, Western, Berber and Arabic influences to create spare, evolving, hypnotic grooves. As if Keith Richards, Santana, John Lee Hooker, various members of Primal Scream, Mogwai and the Grateful Dead had got lost in the Sahara for a decade and then returned as a fully-fledged desert band.

José González, whose family fled their Argentinian homeland bound for Sweden when the military Junta came into power, provides a perfect counterpoint to the hypnotic relentlessness of Tinariwen’s grooves. Being exposed to latin-american melodies from an early age and drawing from the idiosyncrasies of Scandinavian folk José González’s music is a unique hybrid which takes the best of both worlds. Both poignantly beautiful and subtly warm, José González will win over your heart and mind.

Concerts don’t get any better than this. Two hugely renowned acts come together for the first and only time tonight at The Shepherd’s Bush Empire for a very, very special show. Be there.

Line-up:

Our favourite Victorian garmented futurist is back with his trusty beat-crunching Monome and his steamfunk audiovisual invention Archimedes! Imagined by Daedelus, created with the expertise of Emmanuel Biard and David Leonard, and premiered at KOKO to huge acclaim Archimedes is an impressive bespoke mechanised wall of moving mirrors. In time with the music Archimedes twists lights and flips images projected from its base, amplifying the already-ecstatic light show for a unique visual experience.

Taylor McFerrin has been turning heads with his one-man musical show. Combining his skills as a producer and performer, Taylor builds songs from scratch with his ambitious solo project. Vocals, Fender Rhodes, synthesizers, samples, and beat boxing are meshed together as Taylor draws deep from his roots in ‘60s soul to his vision of future hip-hop.

Set in one of the most jaw dropping places in the world, the Winter Sessions Weekender is a 2-day boutique snow fuelled music festival in the heart of the French Alps. Renowned as the adventure sports capital of Europe, Chamonix-Mont-Blanc plays home to the two day festival on and off the slopes of the Mont-Blanc Massif.

‘BESPOKE HOLIDAYS INCL. 7 NIGHTS ACCOMMODATION, 6 DAY SKI PASS & WEEKENDER WRISTBAND FROM JUST £314 – AVAILABLE NOW AT WWW.OFFTHEPISTE.COM’

Alongside the sounds pumping out all weekend, we pay homage to the beautiful setting we are lucky enough to access for the masses – the Mont-Blanc Massif mountain range.
And if you are a winter sports lover, welcome to paradise! Chamonix boasts some of the most amazing terrain in Europe, over 600km of piste – not to mention what you’ll discover off piste. Freeriding at its very best!

And to make life easier, Winter Sessions have teamed up with the snow obsessed tour operator, Off The Piste to offer some brilliant holiday packages around the Weekender. Bespoke holidays from just £314 pp including 7 nights self catered accommodation, 6 day ski pass and 2 day festival wristband which gives you access to a range of fantastic discounts across the Chamonix valley (skis, boards and boots hire, restaurants, bars & experiences).

To celebrate their first London headline show the band are giving away ‘The Diamond Tiles Mix’ that will feature two unreleased Breton tracks – ‘The Hague’ and ‘Harp’. It will be available at www.soundcloud.com/bretonlabs from 8th December.

Tickets are very limited and it’s a strictly no guestlist show so make sure you grab yours now.

Needless to say, we’re very excited.

The three most influential Reggae crews in London meet for a Soundcrash Reggae Soundclash!

The mighty Trojan Sound System need no introduction. Trojan records are synonymous with quality original Reggae the world over, so you know what’s coming to you. And you know you’re gonna love it. Legendary selectors Earl Gateshead and Daddy Ad are joined on stage by original reggae singers to form the Trojan Sound System, an unstoppable machine spreading love, good vibes and authentic Reggae party tunes wherever they go. Watch out for a string of releases (the first “Turn To The East” is sold out already) from the TSS crew in 2012!

Channel One with Jah T and Mikey Dread is one of the World’s Top Sound Systems playing Roots & Culture music. 30 years ago Channel One Sound System started the Era of the house parties / blues dances in London, and went on to play at venues that would become legendary including The Leyton Youth Club, The Four Aces or the Brixton Recreation amongst others. From 1983 Channel One was the first Sound System to take Roots/ Dub music internationally, to colleges, polytechnics and Universities. Their first international dance was in Italy in 1990, and since then they have played many infamous sessions across Europe, Israel, Turkey, New Zealand and Australia… and recently won a soundclash against Skream & Benga, Goldie’s Metalheadz and the Souljazz Soundsystem by popular vote. Serious business.

Reggae Roast is one of the most vibrant, new reggae collectives in the UK and since 2007 they have been spreading their sound of conscious roots music across the globe. Reggae Roast have seen the likes of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Sly & Robbie, Mad Professor, Aba Shanti-I, Iration Steppas and Adrian Sherwood grace their vibrant London residency in the past whilst DJ Wrongtom’s recent collaboration with Roots Manuva in “Duppy Writer” has seen him emerge as one of the UK’s foremost contemporary dub djs and producers.
