His brand of folk with clear jazz, soul and electronica sensibilities, which drew him inexorably to Ninja Tune records, and earned him much coveted support slots for the likes of Gil Scott Heron, Bonobo, Fink, Little Dragon, Jose Gonzales, Jaime Woon, Portico Quartet to name but a few have seen Jono McCleery develop a strong fanbase in and around the UK. Tonight Jono will fill the air at 100 Club’s legendary stage with the bittersweet tones of a huge talent.
Loka is an ever evolving band, drawing on influences from jazz to classical to BBC radiophonic to 60’s psychedelia and much more. Their latest album ‘Passing Place’ to be released later in the year on the stalwart London label is a thing of dark beauty and is sure to put Loka’s name firmly in the music map where they rightfully belong.Loka released their first EP ‘Beginningless’ in 2003 and their first album ‘Fire Shepherds’ followed in 2006. Loka’s sound is certainly evolving, but continues its compelling and innovative journey immune to trends and shallow hype. The eagerly awaited second album ‘Passing Place’, due for release in November 2011, is beautifully dark and disorientating with haunting vocals and brass interludes. Passing Place features an array of guest musicians and vocalists all complimented by a complete brass section from the welsh brass band Beaumaris Seindorf Band.
For this, their first London show in far, far too long, Loka will play with their full ensemble, promising to deliver an unforgettable musical experience for anyone lucky enough to grab a ticket for this amazing show.
