Line-Up Addition: Jazzanova, The Herbaliser & SCRIMSHIRE
Up next on the agenda here at Soundcrash is one we’re all very excited about for a myriad of reasons, but taking it to the most fundamental then it’s because we’re sure it’s going to be a show packed with good music and great vibes. Yes, we’re talking about our upcoming double-headliner at KOKO featuring Jazzanova, the pioneering Funk, Soul, Jazz purveyors who themselves will be appearing on stage with a full 9 piece band, and The Herbaliser, the acclaimed duo who’s Hip Hop and Jazz amalgamation of sound won them many admirers in Ninja Tune’s formative years and beyond!
As if that wasn’t enough, we’re very pleased to announce a further addition to the bill in the shape of Scrimshire!
It’s difficult to know where to start with Scrimshire, simply because he’s a man of many, many paths. An accomplished singer-songwriter, able multi-instrumentalist, top-notch producer and killer DJ, not withstanding the fact he has stood firm as one of the pillars heading up Wah Wah 45s in the wake of the passing of the labels founder, the late, great Simon Goss. Scrimshire released his debut album ‘Along Came The Devil One night…’ back in 2009, rightly garnering an audience and platform for himself as an artist, with the follow up record ‘The Hollow’ being released late last year to much praise (not least for the fact he crafted the album almost single handedly, playing most instruments).
Noted for the record’s melding of musical reference points from across the board, listening through you can pick out everything from subtle, gentle folk leanings to rhythmic samba flourishes and beyond. Scrimshire’s sound is very much derived from that of his own musical leanings, making for an unique and original experience only he can deliver.
“A late contender for album of the year. Possibly the best album Wah Wah 45s have ever released!” Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio 1)
You can head over to Scrimshire’s BandCamp now to preview or purchase the album for an idea of what to expect on the night!
