Electronic music’s Renaissance man Travis Stewart, better known as Machinedrum, is prepping for his biggest and boldest release to date with label Ninja Tune- Vapor City – the first full-length offering since his critically-heralded Room(s) in 2011. And to celebrate this he will be playing a very special show alongside full sets from fellow label-mates King Midas Sound; one half of Hype WIlliams, and the excellent Inga Copeland. To round off the bill we have a live performance from the brilliant kwaito trio of LV from Hyperdub, and Aphotik of Tempo Clash.
The man of many faces went back to the drawing board armed with inspirations sprouting deeper from within his psyche. “Vapor City is an album inspired by a dream city” explains Stewart. “It’s become such a recurring dream of mine throughout the past few years that I began creating music to it, a collection of different songs each representing different districts in the city. “In addition to this latest musical offering, Machinedrum has been prepping a powerful new live show, which promises to be a visual companion to the album’s layered sounds and visions, and showcase this new highpoint in the artist’s musical career.
King Midas Sound are Kevin Martin (aka The Bug), Roger Robinson and vocalist Taigen Kawabe, the Bristol based crew who The Quietus has described as “one of the most exciting musical propositions the UK currently has to offer”. Formerly affiliated to Hyperdub, KMS released Aroo, their first offering on their new home Ninja Tune, on record store day 2013, and are currently preparing a new release for the South London label due to be released early 2014.
Following a split from Hype Williams, the band’s founding member Inga Copeland has begun to make music under a simplified moniker – copeland. The producer and vocalist’s output continues to consist of her solo material as well as ongoing and new collaborations with John T. Gast, DVA, The Bug and Martyn, amongst others. This will be the first chance to see her solo live show in London. Don’t miss this one!
LV are a London-based trio of Will Horrocks, Gervase Gordon and Si Williams. Citing kwaito, a mix of hip-hop and house as their main influences on music, LV struck a record deal with Hyperdub in 2007. Since then they’ve worked with some of the most hyped musicians in South Africa and legendary figures from the world of reggae!
Kicking this massive event off will be the talented Aphotik, resident DJ at the London seminal Tempo Clash nights…
