Nightspot takes you on a journey to the heart of Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat revolution, with a screening of the critically acclaimed documentary, “Finding Fela”, alongside choice Afrobeat selections from the Nightspot DJs’ own African music specialist Omah.
Finding Fela tells the story of Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s life, his music, his social and political importance. He created a new musical movement, Afrobeat, using that forum to express his revolutionary political opinions against the dictatorial Nigerian government of the 1970s and 1980s.
This will be a night to celebrate an amazing man and one of the 20th century’s truly great musical and political movements, with shockwaves that still resonate throughout the African diaspora today.
