Their biggest headline show in an iconic institution

“One of the greatest live bands we have in this country” BBC Radio 2

After selling out Village Underground with over 2 months to go we are delighted to bring East London’s Hackney Colliery Band to North London’s magnificent Koko this May, in what is their biggest show yet.

In summer 2016, Hackney Colliery Band released their third album Sharpener which entered the jazz charts at number 3 (and cross-genre independent charts at number 14) and went on to enormous critical acclaim.

The band has rapidly gained an army of loyal supporters, including radio support from Lauren Laverne, Gilles Peterson, Craig Charles and Huey Morgan. Since the release of their eponymous debut in 2011, the 9-piece have blown their way into the public consciousness with their energetic and passionate live shows, amassing fans worldwide and reinventing the brass band sound for the modern age.

It’s perhaps the band’s outstanding arrangements which sets them apart: able to switch from screaming energy to moody introspection, from cutting-edge jazz to dancefloor rave, and proving that Hackney Colliery Band is not just another party brass band blowing through the usual pop covers.

The band are never content to rest on their laurels or to keep things simple, and are keen collaborators. Over the years they’ve run a series of experimental music nights at Ronnie Scott’s, a weekly new material night in venues across London, and worked with collaborators including Amy Winehouse, Fyfe Dangerfield, Eliza Doolittle, Jamie Cullum, Andreya Triana.

With sellout shows in 2016 including a two night residency at London’s legendary Wilton’s Music Hall, an 800-cap show at Village Underground for the London Jazz Festival and three nights at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, not to mention a brand new album of high-profile collaborations due out in May, 2017 looks set to be HCB’s biggest year yet, both live and on record.

Don’t miss out, grab your ticket for their biggest show yet!

“I love these guys! ” HUEY MORGAN, BBC 6MUSIC

“Reinventing the brass band format for the 21st century” The Times

“This is the most enjoyable, fun music that I know of” The Observer

47SOUL is an Electro Arabic Dabke (Shamstep) band formed in Amman Jordan in 2013. The members are rooted in Bilad Al-Sham, spanning the divides from Amman to the Galilee to Ramallah and the rest of the Palestinian Diaspora.

This new sound of 47SOUL has rapidly amassed fans in the Arab World and Europe by blasting the electric Arabic Dabke sound through underground music scenes. On top of the beats that have been bumping in the Arab World for centuries, 47SOUL hypes it up with analog synthesizers, hypnotic guitar lines, and shattering verses from the four singers.

Every show ends in relentless dance and trance from all parties involved. Their lyrics, mixing Arabic and English, call for celebration and freedom in the struggle for equality, inside Bilad Al Sham and throughout the world.
