The UK’s most promising afrobeat purveyors play their biggest show to date at the world-renowned Islington Assembly Hall.
With an epic 10 piece live show featuring a 4 piece horn section, 2 vocalists, electronics and an international (Brazil/UK) rhythm section, Nubiyan Twist performances are moving and unforgettable experiences which push the boundaries of genre and technical prowess.
Skirting between afrobeat, neo-soul, hip-hop and jazz with seamless virtuosity, they draw on myriad influences ranging from Erykah Badu’s to Fela Kuti to Nat King Cole. They’ve performed alongside luminaries such as Submotion Orchestra, De La Soul, Hot 8 Brass Band and Quantic to name a few on their own meteoric journey towards global recognition.
Since their humble beginnings at Leeds College of Music, the band have performed on huge stages across the world. They were chosen by David Byrne to perform at Queen Elizabeth Hall for the South Bank’s Meltdown Festival, sold out London’s iconic Jazz Cafe, and have rocked festival stages from Fusion to Wilderness, Boomtown and Edinburgh Jazz Festival.
With Ezra Collective in support, hot off the back of performing Gilles Peterson’s renowned Worldwide Awards, this is an unmissable night for world music, hip-hop and jazz fans of all flavours.
